Reliable wind, solar and battery power is very popular these days, especially with outdoor enthusiasts. But one company, Goal Zero, has a unique story that started from the company’s founder Robert Workman. His “goal” was to help people out of poverty by teaching them how to build a business. This would lead to providing things like reliable light to work from. Over the years and many obstacles later, Workman’s humanitarian efforts have also allowed Goal Zero to become a company that not only has a variety of great products, but has also done a lot to empower people and make a difference. “One of the outputs of that mission and our vision, is to put power in the hands of every human being,” says Joe Atkin, Co-Chair at Goal Zero. “We start with giving to programs like TIFIE and Share the Sun, where we set up projects to light villages and create sustainable power systems across the world. Our customers purchase products to power their lives, and can donate a portion of the sale to one of the projects. it comes full circle when we empower our employees and partners to get involved to complete the projects.”
At the Outdoor Retailer show in Salt Lake City, Utah, we had an opportunity to meet with Lisa Janssen who gave us some additional insight into the Goal Zero story. She explained where the company came from and where it’s headed and we’re excited to share this story. For additional information on Goal Zero and its products, visit www.goalzero.com.
