AKU Transalpina GTX Women’s Boot Review

AKU

By Janaise Sanchez

The Transalpina Gtx by Aku is the shoe to invest in when it comes to moderate to advance hiking activities. Stylish yet incredibly technical, the Transpalpina effortlessly fuses suede with their AIR 8000® technology. This allows a breathable upper sole while maintaining a precise thermal balance. Not to mention the IMS³ triple density outsole and an Exoskeleton system for an ideal cradling of your arch. This incredible hiking shoe also features a wrap around anatomical fit which helps to provide stability and advocates a more effective step when traveling on those rough mountain trails.

We really like the fact that Aku resources all of their leather sustainability and has created a global custom fit that allows a complete malleability of their shoes to you.  With little to no break-in required, we started wearing the boot on short and long hikes on a variety of terrain. The insole provided excellent arch support that limited fatigue and maintained a comfortable feel, even on the longest of hikes. The outer Exoskeleton provided enough support on rocky uneven terrain, yet the boot didn’t feel too stiff to prevent movement when we needed it.

The craftsmanship and attention to detail is exceptional and at just a little over 20 oz. the boot is light and could be used for day-hikes as well as some overnight backpacking with a mid-weight pack. The Transalpina is ideal for those long rugged hikes when you are constantly on your feet.

The AKU Transalpina GTX is available in Women’s sizes 6 thru 10, and Men’s sizes 3-13 (Uk) . They are also available in Beige-Ocre, Gray-Green, and Gray. The boots retail around $220. For more information, visit www.aku.it.com.

Aku Transalpina shoe lacing
We really liked the lacing on the Transalpina. Note the rollers on the eyelets that reduce friction.
