Avid skiers and snowboarders will like the versatility of the Columbia Ridge Run snow pants in both winter and spring conditions.
If you’re a skier and/or snowboarder who plays in both winter and spring snow, you probably have a pair of snow pants for each season. We tried Columbia’s Ridge Run snow pants this winter and again in spring and found that they worked well in both conditions. The reason is the Ridge Run’s breathable capabilities that allow the pant to remain warm, yet keep you cool when the sun is out and you’re hitting moguls or pushing an Alle-Oop on the half-pipe.
Aside from it’s modern graphic appearance, the Ridge Run pant is roomy but doesn’t feel over-sized like many snowboarding pants that are often made to fit baggy. While these pants are made for snow, they can also be worn as rain pants but might feel a little “thick” for some.
Along the inseam of the pant legs are large vents that can be zipped open to provide extra cooling once the spring sun begins to get warm. When the skiing is done and you’ve had a few beers with a couple of Brats from the grille, you’ll be glad the Ridge Run pants feature and adjustable waist band.
Another great feature we liked on these pants is the extra lower leg snap gussets. It makes it much easier to get the pants off while you have your gloves on. The heavy duty elastic around the bottom also does a great job in keeping out the snow, especially when you find yourself cruising in deep powder. We never felt wet, too cold or too hot during multiple runs in the cool early mornings or during 72 degree spring runs down the mountain. Columbia’s Omni-Tech waterproof breathable technology kept moisture out and left us feeling dry all day. The Ridge Run pant retails around $115 and is great for snowboarders and skiers that want extra comfort and can be worn over a pair of jeans, base layer pants or even a pair of shorts.
