Five Ten’s Guide Tennie Gets A Modern Redesign That Takes It Beyond Its Approach Shoe Heritage
By Dan Sanchez & Elijah Sanchez
The Five Ten Guide Tennie was the original shoe to go from car, to trail, to the summit. At the 2017 Outdoor Retailer Show, Five Ten reintroduced their Guide Tennie shoe with new features and improvements. The shoe was redesigned, reevaluated, and has evolved into more of an all-around hiking and climbing shoe. The original low volume last is designed to keep your foot from slipping or wiggling when on rocks or trails, and the original soul pattern with dotting tread also helps keep more rubber on rock. The Guide Tennie is made with Stealth C4 rubber outsole, which is the stickiest climbing rubber in the world and allows climbers to latch onto ledges and difficult terrain. Modern materials have also been added, including a full leather upper and exoskeleton for added support, as well as extended lacing for greater adjustability and comfort.
While the shoe is definitely updated, it still has lots of its original heritage. Nancy Bouchard from Five Ten, explains the features of the updated Guide Tennie and the refinements that make it one of the company’s most versatile outdoor adventure shoe.
